Venezuela has some of the richest biodiversity in the world. By volunteering on this project you will help to conserve the spectacular La Gran Sabana National Park and nature reserve whilst helping to take environmental education to the local children. Through doing this, the project aims to ensure a constructive future for this prized ecosystem. You will help to teach the children all about the local fauna and flora, pollution dangers, and creating methods to improve and conserve the environment.

Volunteer Role

As a volunteer you will work in a stunning setting, surrounded by an wealth of wildlife including toucans, monkeys, parrots and butterflies. You will assist local people in a number of conservation projects intended to protect the fragile savannah ecosystem and the cultural distinctiveness of the Pemon Indians.

The locals and coordinators will instruct you in all you need to know about organic practices and sustainable development that are being applied to help with the development of medicinal plants, tree growth and environmental education.

Duties and activities that you will be involved with include:
  • Tree planting and footpath construction
  • Occasional trash collecting projects inside the La Gran Sabana national park
    Nurturing plant seedlings

  • Teach or assist in programs for environmental education
  • Help with ecological restoration and reforestation
  • Assist building an educational trail for schoolchildren in a nearby rain forest
Help to set up an organic vegetable garden for our therapy and training centre for special need children
  • Help develop a comprehensive species list of the existing wildlife in and around the savannah park and biologic reserve
  • Photograph, record and catalogue as many as possible endemic species of flora and fauna
