Texas Wildlife Rescue
The Texas Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Center program was established to help rescue displaced, orphaned and injured wildlife, with the aim of healing and releasing them back into the wild. If that’s not possible, then to let the animals live with dignity within the sanctuary.
The Volunteer ProjectYou’ll be assisting will feeding and cleaning cages, care of animals, landscaping, food preparation, laundry and entering data.
If you can bring skills like maintenance, carpentry, landscaping or mechanics, they will be very welcomed and used to help with the day-to-day running of the Sanctuary. You’ll also be helping out with educational talks at businesses or schools to raise public awareness about wildlife matters and issues in urban areas.
You will be working with the following animals (some young or babies):
- Fawns (bottle feeding)
- Baby squirrels
- Baby songbirds
- Baby opossums, armadillos, domestic animals, etc.
- Exotic birds and reptiles
- Juvenile opposums
- Water birds
- Baby raccoons
- Baby skunks
- Baby raptors
- Baby cottontails or jackrabbits
- Foxes
- Bats
- Snakes
- Primates
If you decide to join the program for longer than two months, you will also be trained in admittance procedures and guidelines, and also how to deal with emergency cases.
Project LocationThe center is located at Kendalia in the heartlands of Texas Hill Country. During your spare time you will have the chance to visit the various attractions of this state, including Houston, Dallas, and Austin, along with seeing Texas traditions such as ranches and rodeos.
Accommodation & MealsYou’ll be accommodated at 1 of the 3 volunteer houses located at the center. Though houses will sometimes be mixed, rooms are single sex only. You will have two bathrooms available to all the volunteers in each house, as well as kitchen and living areas.
You will be buying your own food and cooking during the program and we recommend a budget of $48/€37 - $57/€44 for food every week.
