Sports and Conservation Expedition Zimbabwe and Zambia
If you want a very broad experience and insight into Africa, then consider our Conservation and Sports Expedition to Zambia & Zimbabwe. This five week program will offer you the chance to combine both sports and conservation volunteer work.
This programmes is split into three main parts:
Culture and Bush Awareness CourseAn incredible introduction to Africa’s wildlife and culture, those coming to the continent for the first time will not only be made aware of conservation issues particular to the region, but taught how to live and survive in the Bush lands of Africa. You will be educated to navigate through wild areas, identify and track animals and taught survival tactics to live in Africa’s bush. You’ll sleep under African skies for a week, hearing and seeing the sights of the surrounding environment.
Zambezi National Park Conservation ProjectWorking with experienced zoologists and ecologists, you’ll be gathering important data on a number of animals and their local habitats. This information will help Park Reserve Rangers to patrol effectively their conservation areas, along with developing appropriate policies and procedures to the ever changing environment. You’ll be able to reach regions and tracks normally only accessed by the Park Rangers themselves. This means you’ll be able to see a side of African Wildlife unavailable to the usual tourist in Africa.
You’ll be researching some of the following issues: elephant numbers and movements: impact of local poachers and effect of small and large carnivores on the region.
Zambia Sports Coaching Volunteer ProjectInitially you’ll be fully immersed into the community with a full orientation on the local area.
Zambia’s government, because money and resources are limited, operates a “hot-seat” policy where children have to take turns in going to school. This seriously affects the children’s educations. You’ll be involved in creating structured environments where children learn sports during sessions when they are not learning more academic subjects. Previously, they would have been left to their own devices, often ending up in dangerous situations on the streets.
Though the schools are ill-equipped, the children a very keen to learn. You’ll be working directly with orphaned and deprived children, usually based at their community shelter/center. In this part of the project, you’ll experience the rewarding pleasure of helping to make a real difference to their lives and assisting their education.
Accommodation and MealsYou’ll be based a safari style camp in the bush. All daily meals and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided.
