If you’re a real sports aficionado and enthusiast, you’ll love this program!  We don’t let you warm up gradually…you’ll begin with a five day canoeing trek down the waters of the River Zambezi in Zimbabwe. Afterwards you’ll move onto a PADI certified diving course which will prepare you to dive in the clear and beautiful Chinhoyi caverns.   You’ll end this trip with a three week voluntary placement teaching sports to deprived and orphaned children in Zambia. You’ll be enriched by traveling though two wonderful countries and then have the opportunity to give that enjoyment back. An excellent career break or gap year experience.

The program has been drawn up to ensure you receive the most from your time in Africa.   As well as sporting activities, you’ll have a period of time to go on game safaris and receive some conservation instruction. You’ll have the privilege of taking bred captive lions for a walk in the bush, as well admiring these amazing animals in their natural environments. Eventually these great creatures will be released back into the wild, and you’ll help to do this.

Zambezi Canoeing Experience
Renowned for amazing scenery and flowing rapids, the Zambezi is considered the one of the best places in the world to raft on white water. It is also a popular place for water adventure sports. You’ll experience the exhilaration of canoeing for five days down the river towards the magnificent Victoria Falls.

You will be trained how to canoe correctly by professional canoeists, who will also guide you down river. Their prime concern is your safety and they are fully competent in first aiding and river rescues.

PADI Open Water Diving Course
If you’ve never dived before, or fairly new to the sport, you’ll appreciated this PADI Diving course based at the fascinating Lion Breeding Center located in the midlands of Zimbabwe. You’ll learn to dive properly in a thoroughly safe environment. You’ll also have the chance to savor Real Gap’s most popular animal and conservation program.  It is world famous for rearing lions, teaching them to survive in the bush and eventually releasing them back to their normal habitats. You’ll be able to take bred captive lions for a walk in the bush, go on Big Game trails and enjoy a horse ride guided by experienced rangers through the local bush.

You’ll be instructed in correct techniques and procedures by qualified dive instructors who will help you to achieve all the theoretical and practical skills you need to receive your open water qualifications. You’ll be put forward for the exam at the end of the teaching, and if successful, will receive a certificate of competence.

After as you’re assessed as ready, you can have the amazing pleasure of diving for two days in the turquoise coloured waters of the Chinhoyi Caves. Throughout the world, these 110 meters caves are regarded as one of the most amazingly breathtaking places to go diving.

Zambia Sports Coaching Volunteer Project

On this program you’ll be teaching orphans and deprived children new sports and improving existing sports skills. Many of these children have lost their families through AIDS, and you’ll help to teach them at the local Street Kids Association center. The orphanage provides a home and a basic, simple education to around 120 underprivileged and orphaned children.  Help is required to provide them with daily structured programs  that will keep them off the streets. They’ll react warmly and enthusiastically to the game and sports sessions you teach them, and there’s also the opportunity to put on dramas and plays with them, something they greatly enjoy.

Accommodation and Meals

You’ll be accommodated in one of the three houses especially adapted for volunteers. Other volunteers from your program will live there too. You’ll be living in dorm-style rooms of up to four people, either in single or bunk beds. You’ll be able to enjoy the large garden in your own leisure time.

You’ll receive three meals daily, though this may include packed lunches during the Voluntary coaching program. You’ll also be able to join the tourist trips that will be organized by the Volunteers leader.
