New Zealand Hiking Tour - Volcanoes and Rainforest
Enjoy kayaking on Lake Tarawera, go in search of glow-worms, waterfalls and hidden caves and soaking in thermal streams.
The ProgrammeDuring this tour you will be backpacking through the many wilderness areas of the North Island. The areas that you will be covering include the beautiful Whirinaki Forest Park, the volcanic wonderland of Egmont National Park and Tongariro National Park Mt where a climb up Fanthams peak will give you stunning views of Mt Egmont/Taranaki.
Highlights will include kayaking across the enchanting Lake Tarawera, exploring hidden caves and climbing to the summit of an active volcano. People who visit the North Island are often amazed at the degree of hidden wilderness there.
LocationNew Zealand’s North Island. Starting in Auckland, finishing in Wellington.
Accommodation and MealsYour accommodation will range from camping, hostels and cabins, cribs (summer house), and back-country huts. The accommodation isn’t included in the cost of the program and the prices vary depending on where you are staying.
Meals are on a food kitty system so each person needs to contribute around $10 per day. All participants are required to contribute to preparing meals. Meals will vary being barbecues, salads, pasta, rice etc and you will also want to take lots of energy hiking food with you such as nuts, chocolate, raisins and biscuits!
