Nevada is located between the Western coast of America and California.  It is very close to the Western national parks of Craters of the Moon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon.

Volunteer Role

This voluntary conservation program based in Nevada offers a challenging, diverse and very rewarding opportunity to help conservation work in the Reno region.   Tasks involve:
  • Volunteers will construct and maintain minimum impact trails and control erosion.
  • You may learn the art of dry stone masonry, using it to construct retaining walls, switchbacks, water bars, and riprap erosion control barriers.
  • Other responsibilities will include recreating tread surface to allow for proper trail run-off and also removing encroaching vegetation from the trails.
Other duties involve a variety of restoration practices, these include: devalue illegal roads, transplant native vegetation to the area, native plant restoration, removal of non-native invasive plants, transplanting of native plant seedlings.

Accommodation and Meals

Whilst on field duty, you’ll be camping in either wilderness locations or equipped campsites. Though living on field locations can be a tough lifestyle, it is also great fun too. You’ll see shooting comets and stars, enjoying company of other volunteers around campfires and appreciated the peace of the areas you’ll camp at.  Tents are part of the program.

You’ll have cooking gear and food provided, and each meal is cooked at the campfire.
