This project offers you with an exciting and rare opportunity to work closely with the animals of Africa, caring for them on a daily basis. During your stay in Namibia, you will help with caring for the welfare of animals that have been orphaned or injured.

The main aim of this program is to serve as a soft release area for animals that have been successfully rehabilitated at the Noah’s Ark project, which is 300 kilometers East of Windhoek.

Volunteer Role

You should expect to work physically hard on this project. Currently the centre is constructing the all the sanctuary’s enclosures, waterholes and other infrastructures, with Marlice and her team of Bushman handling things. You should be prepared for hard work in the bush under the hot African sun, as you get stuck in, erecting fences, digging holes and building new enclosures.

During your stay, you will experience some of the following activities:
  • Building enclosures
  • Relocation of animals
  • Participating in the capture and darting of animals for relocations that would otherwise be shot and destroyed
  • Working towards completing the Charity lodge, by the end of July 2007
  • Participating in the hospitality section of lodge
  • Record keeping of animal arrivals and treatments
  • Assisting in collecting data and conveying results to relevant organisations
  • Wildlife rehabilitation
  • Everyday operations of the wildlife sanctuary: Feeding animals, cleaning enclosures, tending to sick or injured animals and maintenance of the farm.
  • Night walks and camping in the bush at night

Location

Situated just 38 kilometers East of Windhoek in Namibia and 15 kilometers from the International airport, this program has been supported and improved through the funding of the new patron, Angelina Jolie, to now become a 10,000 hectare release site.

Accommodation and meals

As this is a new program, you will be staying in a very comfortable tented lodge. The tents are large, sleeping up to five to six volunteers per tent. There is also a bathroom that includes a toilet and shower. The new volunteer house (which should be finished in July 07) has four bedrooms and three bathrooms.

All during your stay, you will have access to a communal kitchen and will cook your meals as part of a group.  Your meal costs are included in the program fee. There is also a communal dining area and laundry that overlooks the vast plains of this excellent project site.
