Honduras Marine Conservation
While on this program you will work along with our team of professional marine scientists and ecologists. You will carry out underwater reef surveys; whale shark and dolphin population studies and many other things to help scientists better understand and consequently conserve this fascinating and unique ecosystem and the stunning creatures it supports.
Volunteer RoleThis project provides you with the really exceptional opportunity to take part in a wide range of underwater research with our field scientists, who specialize in mega fauna and marine ecology. Current investigative projects include coral disease surveys, dolphin and whale shark surveys, and reef fish surveys to name a few.
During the programme volunteers will become involved in some or all of these activities:
- Whale-shark and dolphin survey
- Dive research
- Coral disease surveys
- Juvenile corals and reproduction
- Fish surveys
- Lobster and conch survey
- Mangrove surveys
- Community work
- Clerical work
LocationUtila, The Bay Islands, Honduras
Accommodation and MealsYou will be based with the other volunteers in a shared house in Utila town, close to the project centre. Bedrooms are normally two to a room and the house has a common living area.
All of your meals are provided on project. An excellent Honduran cook who serves very local dishes will prepare breakfast and dinner.
